My trip to New Orleans was a good one.  I really enjoyed playing a concert at City Park as a member of Tim Laughlin’s quartet, with David Boeddinghaus, piano and James Singleton, bass.

I also got to play with a different, equally wonderful quartet at the Bombay Club, with Meryl Zimmerman, vocals; Kris Tokarski, piano; and Nobu Ozaki, bass.

There was one more engagement at the Bombay Club with Tim and Kris, but before that I had a chance to visit with an old friend from my West Coast days — John Gill.  John and his wife have just moved to New Orleans, and we spent a pleasant afternoon toasting the memories of Lu Watters, Turk Murphy, Bob Helm, Wally Rose, Kid Ory, Bunk Johnson and others.

The work calendar is now fairly empty until mid-September, but at least I will have more time to be with the cats…
